Last week, I shared my adventure in Luxor , Egypt, where I ended my article talking about the Nile River cruise , the famous Nile Cruiser, an incredible tour that is worth doing. His final destination was Aswan, the subject of today’s post and yet another itinerary that couples can include in their destination wedding in Egypt. Arriving in Aswan, Egypt was an unforgettable experience. I remember the magical feeling as we sailed down the Nile towards the city . The arrival itself was a spectacle, with the boat gliding smoothly through the calm waters of the river, while the city gradually came into view in front of us. The view of the coastline and historic buildings is something I will never forget.
Aswan is a city located in southern Egypt, close to the border with Sudan , and is a popular tourist destination due to its history and natural beauty. The city is famous for being an important center of ancient Egyptian civilization and home to several historic monuments and temples, such as the Abul-Simbel Temple, Philae Temple and Aswan Dam. But, in fact, one of the great attractions of Aswan is the Nile River, which crosses the city and offers a breathtaking view for visitors.
One of the most moving visits I made in Aswan was to the Abul-Simbel Temple . This ancient temple, built during the reign of Ramses II, is a testament to the grandeur of ancient Egyptian civilization and one of the country’s biggest tourist attractions. The impressive architecture and intricate details carved into the stones are truly remarkable. In addition to its historical and architectural importance, the Abul-Simbel Temple is also famous for being used as a film set. One of the best known is “The Mummy” , a 1999 film starring Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz. The temple was used to represent the location where the film’s villain, Imhotep, was mummified alive as punishment for his crimes.
But the trip was also marked by a strange and magical moment: I saw a mirage. As we drove through the desert, I caught sight of a sparkling, crystalline lake that seemed to reflect the cloudless blue sky. I was enchanted by the scene, until I realized it wasn’t real. It was just an optical illusion, a trick of the light that made me see something that wasn’t there. It was a powerful reminder that travel is not just about the destinations we visit, but also about the unique experiences we have along the way. Seeing a mirage in the middle of the desert in Egypt, as we crossed the road towards the Temple of Abul-Simbel, is something that I will keep with me forever.
Wassup what did you think? Aswan is awesome!
See you next week!
Kisses,
Simone.
